Translation
The Light of the Dead
The Light of the Dead
By the sea, in the heart of the night,
A light still turns…
But no one remains in the tower,
Not since that night.
The tower stands upon the black rock,
Facing the endless sea,
The rain beats against the windows,
The wind calls to the sailors.
Every seven seconds the light returns,
Sweeping across the cold water,
Like an open eye,
Searching for the lost.
On the quay there is no voice,
No footsteps on the road,
But within the walls of the tower,
A beating heart can be heard.
One toll of the bell…
Two tolls of the bell…
Three times the sea sings.
A ship emerges from the mist,
But no one sees it.
Light of the dead,
Light up the night,
Show the way
To those lost at sea.
Light of the dead,
Turn across the water,
Call their names,
Lead them home.
But the dead will not return,
But the dead will not sleep.
Light… light…
The dead…
In the sea… in the sea…
They will not return…
One hundred and ten years have passed,
Since the ship sailed away,
Loaded with people and promises,
Loaded with gold and secrets.
There were no stars in the sky,
There was no moon upon the water,
Only the white light of the tower,
Guiding the ship toward the reefs.
A scream cuts through the wind,
A mast broken by the sea,
And the sailors’ eyes,
Watching the final light.
By morning there was nothing,
Only timber and forgotten names,
And on the tower door were written the words:
“It was not an accident.”
Who turned the light?
Who closed the door?
Who heard their screams?
And who stole their story?
One toll of the bell…
Two tolls of the bell…
Three times the sea sings.
Even today, in the heart of the mist,
The nameless ship returns.
Light of the dead,
Light up the night,
Show the way
To those lost at sea.
Light of the dead,
Turn across the water,
Call their names,
Lead them home.
But the dead will not return,
But the dead will not sleep.
It is not a bell you hear,
It is their hearts beating.
It is not the wind that whistles,
It is their voices singing.
It is not the mist you see,
It is their breath upon the sea.
And it is not the light of the tower…
It is a fire for the dead.
Come back…
Come back…
Come back home…
But there is no home anymore.
The sea rises…
The reefs tremble…
The ship draws near…
And the tower light blazes.
Light of the dead!
Call them!
Light of the dead!
Beneath the water!
Light of the dead,
Light up the night,
Show the way
To those lost at sea.
Light of the dead,
Turn across the water,
Call their names,
Lead them home.
But the dead will not return,
But the dead will not sleep.
Light of the dead,
Stay alight,
Until it is revealed,
The secret of that night.
By the sea, in the heart of the night,
A light still turns…
But when a ship draws near,
The light turns toward the reefs.
